This collection consists of a single 8 x 6 photograph of eleven Confederate veterans standing in front of a home in Romney, West Va. The veterans are identified, and included is the inscription from the reverse of the original photograph. It says, 'Entertained at the home of John J. Cornwell and wife in honor of J. D. Parsons and his ex-confederate comrades, March 1915.'

The papers of Captain David L. Hopkins, include 12 letters to his wife, Lou, all but one from his post in Lynchburg, Virginia, concerning their Lexington, Virginia farm, food supplies, mutual acquaintances, and occasionally the war, in particular the Battle of Lynchburg as well as several other family letters and Confederate money.

Scope and Contents

This collection consists of three letters written by E. M. Walden from various Confederate States of America camps (near Wilmington, NC; Kinston, NC; and Richmond, VA) to his sister. He provides her with updates on CSA military activities and mentions General Sherman's raid in Georgia. The letters are dated June 13, 1863, Dec. 3, 1864, and Jan. 20, 1865.

This collection includes the manuscript of 'Ups and downs of a Confederate soldier' by James Huffman, a member of the Confederate States of America, 10th Virginia Infantry Regiment, Company I, and correspondence concerning its publication; approximately 270 items, including letters to and from his son Oscar C. Huffman, a member of the Washington and Lee University School of Law, Class of 1898, as well as genealogical correspondence and charts.

This collection includes a letter, December 12, 1845, to Virginia Congressman William Taylor concerning a federal appointment; a letter from Alexander H.H. Stuart, August 13, 1861; document, September 26, 1863, signed by Letcher exempting a slave from public works for the Confederate government; 3 letters to J. Hinholzer, November 3, 1864, December 3, 1864, and May 15, 1865; subscription list of a testimonial to Charles A. Davidson for service on behalf of the Conservative ticket.

Scope and Contents This collection contains primary and secondary resources pertaining to Robert E. Lee and the Lee family. Included are correspondences from, to, and about Lee and various family members; memorabilia, pamphlets, photographs, reminiscences, miscellaneous personal papers, family history and genealogy. The collection includes materials acquired from the Lee family and items donated to and purchased and compiled by W&L University since Lee's tenure as president of Washington College from 1865...
